Balanced Attack Leads Women’s Volleyball to NAC Sweep at Cazenovia

Cazenovia, NY – Alyssa Adams and Sarah Balcom combined for 13 kills leading a balanced attack as the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road match at Cazenovia on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The first set was close early on, but the Roos used five straight points with kills from Alexas Marshall, Cassidy Werner and Adams as well as an ace from Michaella DeCapua to open a 16-10 lead. The Wildcats rallied back to get within 21-20, but the Roos scored the final three points including a pair of kills from Werner and Cadin Taggart to close out the first frame, 25-21.
  • Cazenovia led 9-4 early in the second set before Canton rattled off five straight points with a pair of kills from Balcom and one from DeCapua. The Roos used an 8-1 run to open an 18-12 advantage and carried that to a 25-18 win in the second.
  • Canton jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the third before the Wildcats rallied with six straight to knot things up at 13 apiece. The Roos would surrender just three points the rest of the way ending the match with eight straight points behind the service game of Cassidy Werner.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DeCapua led all players with 13 assists and 13 digs while adding three kills. Adams tied a match-high with seven kills, while Balcom added seven.
  • Taggart and Marshall chipped in with five kills each, while Werner had four. Kaylee Clark supplied 13 digs defensively.
  • The Roos had 32 kills compared to 23 for Cazenovia, while outhitting the Wildcats .191 (32 K-14 E-94 TA) to .019 (23 K -21 E-106 TA).
  • Sophia Ferris and Karissa Decosse led Cazenovia with seven kills each, while Ferris and Kimberly Rodriguez combined for 21 digs.

The Roos are back in action next Saturday when they visit SUNY Delhi at 6 p.m.
