Ethan Leibeck recorded his first collegiate goal to get the Roos within one, but host Alfred State earned a 3-1 win in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers got the scoring started in the 19th minute when Riley Warren-Nichols played a ball in to Gavin Rice on his right as his shot beat Roos keeper Ronald Zavala high for the 1-0 lead.
- Alfred State doubled their lead six minutes later on another through ball this time with Warren-Nichols and Rice teaming up to deliver a pass to Nuri Sarbudak. Sarbudak one-timed a shot into the left corner past Zavula.
- The Roos trimmed the deficit to one in the 38th minute when Dylan Vanderpool picked up a Pioneer turnover and played a pass up the right side to Martin Torales in space. Torales delivered a cross right to Ethan Leibeck who one-timed a left-footed shot into the left corner of net for his first collegiate goal. Â
- Alfred State held a 6-2 shots on goal advantage and took a 2-1 lead into intermission.
- The Roos challenged Alfred State keeper Thaddeus Grierson four times over the first 20 minutes of the second half but were unable to get the equalizer past him.
- Jackson Powers tacked on an insurance goal for the hosts in the 81st minute for the 3-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers finished with advantages in shots (19-12), shots on goal (10-6) and corner kicks (2-0).
- Zavala made seven saves in the loss for the Roos, while Grierson totaled five stops for Alfred State.
- Leibeck led the Roos with two of their six shots on net.
