Men’s Soccer Controls Play, Settles for 0-0 Draw v. Badgers

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's soccer team controlled play throughout but settled for a 0-0 draw against visiting NVU-Johnson in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos had some quality scoring chances early on as Martin Torales delivered service in as Michael Gavette's header struck off the cross bar less than five minutes in. Just over a minute later Chris Escobar ripped a shot from way out that went just over the crossbar.
  • With 19 minutes left in the opening half Brennan Harmer delivered a beautiful ball in as Gavette's header went just wide left. Moments later Dylan Vanderpool had a great scoring opportunity that was saved by Badger keeper Pat Austin.
  • Canton held a 6-1 shots on goal advantage in the opening half but six saves from Austin kept things scoreless after 45 minutes.
  • The Roos challenged Austin with four shots on goal over a seven minute stretch in the second half but were unable to solve the keeper as the teams played to a scoreless tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos dominated play overall holding an advantage in shots (25-1), shots on goal (10-1) and corner kicks (3-1).
  • Owen Kwong stopped the lone shot he faced in his second shutout of the season.
  • Austin made 10 saves in the shutout for the Badgers.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos visit Alfred State in non-conference action on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
