Raven Tallies Seventh Double-Double in Loss v. UMPI

Canton, NY – Senior Chelsey Raven recorded her team-leading seventh double-double of the season but visiting Maine Presque Isle used a strong fourth quarter to defeat the SUNY Canton women's basketball team 77-55 in non-conference action in Canton on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams were extremely even over the first 30 minutes of action. The Owls held a slim 18-15 lead after the opening quarter with the squads dead even at 17 points apiece in the second quarter.
  • UMPI outscored the Roos 16-13 in the third quarter to hold a slim 51-45 lead after three.
  • The Owls stormed out to a 23-2 run to start the fourth quarter holding the Roos to just one basket over the first 7:41 of the stanza as they cruised to the victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Raven posted her seventh double-double of the year with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Shanelle Borth also scored double digits finishing with 10 points and six rebounds.
  • Seattle Lettau chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes off the bench. Joie Culkin and Hayleigh Armstrong tallied six points each as Armstrong recorded a season-best with two threes off the bench. Samantha Dayter dished out a game-best five assists.
  • Rebecca Davila (17), Paige Espling (14), Hunter Mercier (14), Alexis Ireland (10) and Mariah Dunbar (10) led a balanced scoring attack for the Owls. Espling also had 10 rebounds for the double-double and Emily Wheaton and Davila dished out four assists each.
  • UMPI shot 40.3% from the field and 56.3% from beyond the arc, while the Roos had marks of 30.8% and 37.5%, respectively.
  • SUNY Canton had the upper hand in rebounds (47-42) but 24 Roo turnovers led to 25 points for the visitors. The Owls also had the edge in points in the paint (32-18) and fast break points (12-4).
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The women's basketball contest on Tuesday (1/11) v. SUNY Potsdam was postponed due to the Bears COVID protocols.
