Canton, NY – Joie Culkin and
Chelsey Raven both reached double figures in scoring but a strong second quarter proved to be the difference leading visiting Maine Presque Isle to a 63-52 win in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest v. the SUNY Canton women's basketball team on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was close early on as both teams struggled shooting to start coming off a layoff. UMPI led 10-8 after the opening quarter.
- The Owls outscored the Roos 17-9 in the second quarter to take a 27-17 lead into intermission. Rebecca Davila paced the visitors with nine points, while no Canton player had more than three first half points.
- Play was extremely close as Canton edged UMPI 20-18 in a high scoring third quarter. The Roos got within three before the Owls extended the lead to 45-37 after three.
- Canton opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run with a three-pointer from Culkin and a steal and fast break lay in from Antanasia Chambers. The Owls responded with a 9-0 run extending the lead to double digits with less than five minutes remaining to put the game away.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Raven came up just one rebound short of a double-double posting 11 points and nine rebounds. Culkin finished with one off her season-high with 11 points and added seven rebounds.
- Chambers and Seattle Lettau supplied eight points each, while Samantha Dayter added a game-best five assists to go with six rebounds.
- Alexis Ireland led the Owls with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds and added four assists. Davila recorded 12 points and Paige Espling finished with 10 rebounds.
- UMPI controlled the boards (52-44) as most statistical categories were extremely even. The major difference came at the free throw line where the Owls earned nine extra points. The Roos finished 6-for-9 and UMPI was 15-for-21.

These two teams will have a rematch on Sunday at 12 p.m. in the Roos House. Sunday's game will be a non-conference contest. Â
