Williams Makes Five Saves as Roos Drop NAC Opener to MMA

Canton, NY – Skylar Williams made five saves but three different players scored goals to lift visiting Maine Maritime Academy past the SUNY Canton women's soccer team in the Roos' North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Margot Simeon got the visitors on the board in the seventh minute. Payje Leclerc took a corner kick from the right side and Simeon chipped a shot in the upper 90 just out of the reach of Williams.
  • Simeon's shot was the lone shot on target for either team over the opening 45 minutes as the Mariners took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
  • The visitors doubled the lead seven minutes out of intermission. Hazel Stoddard took a free kick from near midfield and Sierra Hoops volleyed a bouncing ball in the upper left corner for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Mariners closed out the scoring in the 86th minute when Catherine Swift collected a loose ball in the left side of the box and placed a shot into the right corner of the net.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Williams made five stops for the Roos upping her season total to 33.
  • Bess MacArthur was not required to make a save in her third win of the season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos host Thomas College in another NAC game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
