Canton, NY – Ellis Sanchez recorded his third goal of the season to tie the game in the 63rd minute and lead the SUNY Canton men's soccer team to a 1-1 OT draw v. visiting Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mariners opened the scoring in the 19th minute when MMA switched the ball from right to left. Jacob Olson fed a pass to Landon Nichols in front of the Mariners bench on the far sideline. Nichols delivered a high ball into the box. Roos goalkeeper Owen Kwong came charging out as Xander Fortuna-Ramos flicked the ball into the open net.
- Maine Maritime held a 4-2 shots on goal advantage in the opening half as they led 1-0 at intermission.
- Canton found the equalizer in the 63rd minute as Sanchez was taken down in a threatening position with the ball on his foot in the box. He buried the ensuing penalty kick beating MMA keeper Trevor Gray into the lower right corner.
- Neither team could find the back of the net over the final 27 minutes of regulation as they would head to overtime.
- Canton had a 2-1 shots on goal edge in the first OT, but Gray made both saves. Neither team had a shot on goal in the second extra session as the teams settled for a draw and one point in the conference standings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sanchez's goal marks his team-leading third of the season and the eighth of his career.
- Kwong made five saves for the Roos and now has 23 saves on the season. Gray turned aside six shots for the Mariners.
- Total shots were even at nine each in the game, while Canton had the upper hand in corner kicks, 10-8.
- MMA committed twice as many fouls as Canton, 22-11.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Sunday when they host Thomas College in another NAC game at 3:30 p.m.
