THE BASICS

- Location: SUNY Potsdam Turf
- Records: SUNY Potsdam (2-3-2) | SUNY Canton (2-4-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Canton had a quality chance early on as the Roos played a free kick in from near midfield that deflected backwards off a Bears defender. It went right to Will Austin near the far post, but he was unable to get much on his shot as Potsdam keeper Conor Callan made the save.
- Canton had another great chance in the 27th minute on a counterattack when Austin played a beautiful through ball to Ellis Sanchez as he was in on the break with a defender just trailing. Callan came charging and Sanchez tried to touch it to his left but the ball just got away over the end line for a goal kick.
- Potsdam got on the board first in the 32nd minute. The Bears threw the ball in from the right sideline and the ball was headed forward by a Potsdam player before a Roos defender headed it trying to clear the box. Sebastian Matos volleyed the ball beautifully out of the air placing a shot into the top left corner.
- The Bears took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
- Ten minutes out of halftime Canton keeper Tyler Petersen dove at a ball in the box but a Bears player beat him to the ball and Petersen was whistled for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick.
- Rafael Castro stepped up and although Petersen guessed the right direction, Castro was able to place his shot above a diving Petersen into the right side of the net.
- The Roos were unable to trim the deficit down the stretch as the hosts held on for the 2-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
