Sanchez Scores Twice Including OT Game-Winner as Roos Pick up NAC Win at Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY – Ellis Sanchez scored twice including the game-winner 6 minutes, 23 seconds into overtime as the men's soccer team picked up a big road win at SUNY Cobleskill in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sanchez got the Roos off to a strong start as he buried his first goal of the season in the seventh minute. Brandon McCorriston and Agustin Nunez picked up assists on the play.
  • Less than 10 minutes later the host Fighting Tigers drew even when Cater Ciavardoni headed home a shot off a cross from Garrett Maxwell.
  • The teams went into intermission tied at one apiece as the Roos held a 6-2 shots on goal advantage in the opening half.
  • Canton owned a 4-3 shots on goal edge after halftime but the teams would need extra time to decide Saturday's contest. Each goalkeeper made one save in the first overtime, but it was Sanchez who provided the heroics.
  • Early on in the seventh minute of the second overtime McCorriston played a through ball to Sanchez in the box who put home his seventh career goal in thrilling fashion.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Owen Kwong made five saves in his second win of the season, while John Gergen made 10 saves in defeat for the Tigers.
  • Sanchez led Canton with six shots on goal, while McCorriston and Nunez added two each.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's soccer team has a quick turnaround as they visit SUNY Potsdam in non-conference action on Monday at 7 p.m.
