Women's Volleyball Nate Hart, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Marketing

SEASON PREVIEW: Women’s Volleyball Voted to Finish Third in NAC West

Waterville, ME – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West division in a preseason vote of the division's five head coaches.

The Roos finished with18 points and one first-place vote in the poll. Canton narrowly trails SUNY Delhi (19) and SUNY Poly (19) who tied for first in voting both receiving a pair of first-place votes.  SUNY Cobleskill (11) and Cazenovia (8) round out the NAC West poll.

Four-time defending NAC champion Maine Maritime was picked to win the NAC East with 25 points and all five first-place votes, while Husson was picked second with 18 points NVU-Johnson (15), Maine Presque Isle (12) and NVU-Lyndon round out the NAC East poll.

Expanded membership allowed for the reimagination of both regular season and championship tournament formats. Teams are now split into East and West Divisions, each with five members. Each team will play regular season matches against all opponents within their division, which forms the basis for seeding and selection to the postseason tournament.

The top seed in each half will host quarterfinal and semifinal contests, then East and West champions will vie for the NAC Championship and automatic qualification (AQ) to the NCAA championship tournament. A rotation was established for determining who will host the conference championship, and the prevailing team in the East will host in 2021, followed by the West in 2022, and so on.

SUNY Canton is led by Head Coach Caitlin Grimshaw who enters her third year at the helm of the Roos. The team is looking to qualify for its third consecutive NAC championship match since joining the conference in 2018.

The Roos roster features 16 players with 10 returners coupled with six newcomers.
