Reed, Welch & Cartier Record First Career Homers as Baseball Splits v. Cazenovia

Canton, NY – Ty Reed, Nathan Welch and Cameron Cartier all recorded their first collegiate home runs as the SUNY Canton baseball team split a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games v. Cazenovia College on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first. With two down Ty Reed doubled down the right field line to score Jesse Iacovetta, who legged out an infield single earlier in the inning.
  • Cazenovia tied the game at one in the third inning on an RBI double. Canton regained the lead with a score of their own in the bottom of the frame.
  • Zach Miner led off lining a ball off the pitcher and reaching on an infield single. He then stole second and advanced to third on a Jesse Iacovetta sacrifice. Miner gave Canton the lead once again scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Reed added an insurance run for Canton in the bottom of the sixth when he lined a solo shot to left field, his first collegiate homer.
  • Dylan Allen earned his first win of the season throwing a complete game three hitter striking out seven batters and allowing one run.
  • Joe DeGroot took the loss for Cazenovia giving up three earned runs with nine strike outs.
  • Reed went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and drove in a pair of runs. Miner, Iacovetta, Kevin Kapfer and Mackenzie Mather all had hits for the Roos.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • Cazenovia jumped out to a 13-4 lead after three innings in the nightcap. The Wildcats scored two runs each in the first and third innings and had a nine run second inning.
  • The Roos scored one run in the first and third innings and two in the second.
  • Nathan Welch scored Miner on an RBI ground out in the first. Miner placed a 2 RBI single through the left side in the second to bring home Noah Reyes and Nick Shoemaker. Welch led off the third with a solo homer to right field.
  • The Wildcats added three runs in the fifth and seventh innings and five in the sixth.
  • Canton added a pair of runs in the sixth when Cartier hit a two-run homer to dead center field also scoring Anthony Bocchino.
  • KJ Beeman earned the win for Caz tossing five innings giving up four earned runs with four strike outs and six walks. Zach Bates took the loss surrendering two earned runs with a strike out and walk in one inning.
  • Joe Brisson led the Wildcats going 4-for-5 with five runs and an RBI, while Nick Santoro was 4-for-5 with four runs and 4 RBI.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
These two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday in Canton at 12 p.m. The Roos will celebrate Senior Day before the first game.
