Troiano and Gilbert Lead Roos to Split v. Wildcats

Marcy, NY – Jackson Troiano and Seth Gilbert led the SUNY Canton baseball team to a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) split on Friday at SUNY Poly.
Troiano tossed a complete game with six strike outs, while Gilbert went 3-for-4 with two runs and 2 RBI on the day to lead the Roos to a split v. the Wildcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • In a game that was resumed from Tuesday at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds in the bottom of the second with SUNY Poly leading 1-0 the Wildcats earned an 8-0 win.
  • SUNY Poly scored five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to earn the victory.
  • Kevin Flynn tossed a complete game shutout five hitter with seven strike outs as he earned his second win of the season.
  • Jamere Griffin took the loss allowing six earned runs with a strike out and walk for the Roos.
  • Nathan Welch went 2-for-3 for Canton, while Don Louis Rodriguez, Dylan Allen and Gilbert all recorded hits.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings with three runs in the first and one in the second. Ty Reed walked home Zach Miner in the first and Jesse Iacovetta scored on a balk. Noah Reyes singled home Rodriguez.
  • Canton added another run in the second when Iacovetta used a baste hit to plate Miner. The Roos added two more runs in the top half of the third to extend the lead to 6-0. Chris McVannan brought home Dylan Allen on an RBI single and Rodriguez walked in Gilbert.
  • SUNY Poly responded with two runs in the bottom half of the third before Canton tallied three runs in the top half of the sixth. Gilbert produced a 2 RBI double to bring across Reyes and Zach Bates and Mackenzie Mather doubled home Gilbert.
  • The Wildcats added one run in the bottom of the sixth for the 9-3 final.
  • Troiano had a strong outing on the mound throwing a complete game with six strike outs allowing three runs. Carter Romansky took the loss allowing five earned runs with six strike outs and four walks in 2.2 innings.
  • Iacovetta went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI along with two walks. Miner, Reyes and Gilbert had two hits each, while Gilbert drove in a pair of runs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
SUNY Canton and SUNY Poly will look to make up the final game of their series early next week if it is need for playoff seeding. The baseball team is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Cazenovia for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. The games are set to be played at the Canton High School Fields on State St.
