Fingar Scores Career-High Four as Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Wildcats in NAC Semis

Marcy, NY – Sophomore Kyle Fingar scored a career-best four goals but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell 15-7 to host SUNY Poly in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team found the back of the net over the opening five minutes as the squads eventually exchanged goals early on. The Wildcats rattled off three straight scores before Jacob Facey caged his 19th goal of the season. The hosts took a 5-2 lead after the opening quarter.
  • The second quarter was a defensive battle that saw just four total goals. Fingar put home his second goal of the game and 13th of the season to get Canton within 6-3 but a pair of tallies gave the Wildcats an 8-3 lead at intermission.
  • Poly scored three consecutive goals out of halftime to open up an 11-3 advantage before Fingar's third of the game stopped the run.
  • The Wildcats extended the lead to 13-4 early in the fourth quarter earning the 15-7 victory.
  • SUNY Poly will now host Husson University for the NAC Championship next weekend.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Fingar's four goals are a career-high. His previous career-best was three goals twice earlier this season v. SUNY Delhi (4/3) and SUNY Cobleskill (4/17). LaFave recorded two goals and one assist and Facey added one goal. Trent Dow dished out an assist.
  • Nick Walberger went 13-for-18 on face offs and picked up a game-high nine ground balls.
  • Edward Rosaschi paced Poly with three goals and three assists. Ryan Mead, Amelio Ripa and Rhett Stauffer all finished with two goals and one assist each.
  • Justin LaDuke made 16 saves in the loss, while Matthew Johnson turned aside four shots in the win.
  • The Wildcats controlled shots on goal (31-11), turnovers (15-27) and ground balls (41-29). SUNY Canton had the edge in face offs (14-11).
Fingar and Walberger were SUNY Canton's member on the NAC All-Tournament.
