Utica, NY – Mackenzie Currie went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in the nightcap but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a pair of games by scores of 8-0 and 2-0 to host Utica College in non-conference action on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The host Pioneers jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after two innings plating six runs in the second inning. Utica added one run each in the third and fifth frames for the 8-0 run-rule victory in the opener.
- Angelina LoPiccolo, Shaylyn DeVito and Alaina Beane recorded base hits for the Roos.
- Bailey McElwain paced the Pioneers going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Sara Stransky also had a pair of hits.
- Beane took the loss on the mound for Canton scattering six earned runs over 4.1 innings with four strike outs and four walks.
- Jordyn Conte threw a complete game three-hitter for the hosts striking out four batters.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Currie notched two of the Roos three hits in Game 2 going 2-for-2 at the dish. Madison Austin produced Canton's other hit, while Sophia Harris and Beane each drew a free pass.
- The nightcap was even except the fourth inning where the Pioneers brought across both of their runs. Brooke Catlin scored Stransky on a sacrifice fly to left and then Megan O'Keefe scored Phelps on an RBI single.
- Kayla Chavarri got the start for the Roos on the mound posting three strike outs and a walk while allowing two earned runs in six innings.
- Makenna Reinold picked up the victory for Utica striking out seven batters and walking two in six innings. Conte came on in the seventh for the save allowing one hit with a strike out.

WHAT'S NEXT
The softball team is scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday when they visit SUNY Delhi for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Â
