Miner’s Three Hits Leads Baseball in Road Doubleheader at Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY – Zach Miner registered three hits on the day but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games at SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 –BOX SCORE
  • The Tigers scored one run each in the first and second innings to take an early lead.
  • The Roos got within one in the top of the fifth when Zach Bates brought across Jesse Iacovetta on a sacrifice fly to right.
  • Jayson Maxwe gave the hosts some cushion with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning as Cobleskill held on for the 4-2 win in seven innings in the opener.
  • Iacovetta went 2-for-3 with a run for the Roos, while Miner and Bates had the other hits.
  • Stephen Teja picked up the victory tossing 6.2 innings surrendering one earned run with five strike outs, while Manielvic Di threw the final one-third inning for the save.
  • Jamere Griffin threw a complete game of six innings for Canton allowing three earned runs with a walk and four strike outs.
  • Eddy Garcia went 3-for-3 for the Tigers, while Matthew Snyd also had a pair of hits.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE 
  • Cobleskill jumped out to a quick lead with three runs in the first frame of the nightcap.
  • Canton got one run each back in the top half of the fourth and six innings, but both times the host responded with a run of their own in the bottom half.
  • Don Louis Rodriguez recorded his second homer in three games when he hit a solo shot in the fourth and he added an RBI single in the sixth.
  • The Tigers added one more run in the eighth for the 6-2 final in nine innings.
  • Rodriguez and Miner both finished 2-for-4 with a run each, while Rodriguez drove in a pair. Kevin Kapfer, Danny Vargas and Chris McVannan tallied a hit each.
  • Shane Tiernan took the loss for the Roos allowing four earned runs with three strike outs and two walks in seven innings.
  • Andrew Jarko picked up the win for Cobleskill as he did not allow an earned run in two innings of relief work.
  • Connor Mann, Nick Thomas and Jarrod Willi all had multi-hit outings for the hosts.

The Roos return to action on Saturday when they host the Fighting Tigers for a NAC doubleheader in Canton.
