Canton, NY – Zach Bates and
Zach Miner supplied two hits each but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a season-opening doubleheader at SUNY Oneonta by scores of 5-2 and 15-1 on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos jumped out to an early lead in the opener when Ty Reed brought home Dylon Bougor on an RBI ground out to first in the top of the first. Bougor reached base on a leadoff walk and moved over to third on a Miner single.
- Oneonta took the lead in the bottom of the frame plating three runs before extending the lead to 4-1 with a run in the second.
- Canton got within 4-2 in the top half of the third when Reed doubled down the right field line plating Miner, who reached first on an error earlier in the inning.
- The Red Dragons regained the three-run advantage with another run in the bottom of the third. Neither team would score the remainder of the game as both team's pitchers were dealing.
- Shane Tiernan took the loss on the mound for the Roos giving up four earned runs on six hits with two walks in two innings. Matthew Petrossi earned the win throwing four innings in relief giving up one unearned run on one hit with five strike outs. Michael Losak was credited with the save striking out two batters in the final inning.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE

- SUNY Canton once again scored once in the opening inning of the nightcap as Kevin Kapfer singled through the right side to bring across Miner. However, Oneonta would not allow the Roos another run the remainder of the game.
- Oneonta scored six runs in the first, four in the sixth, two each in the second and fourth and one in the fifth for the 15-1 final.
- Bates paced SUNY Canton with two hits, while Bougor, Miner, Nick Welch and Juan Diaz had one each.
- Miner took the loss surrendering five earned runs and five walks before being removed in the first inning.
- Michael Dunne earned the win for the hosts allowing one earned run on six hits in three innings.
