Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team closed out the 2021 portion of its schedule falling 64-44 to undefeated St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Lawrence jumped out to a quick 16-4 lead and took a 19-6 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
- The Roos continued to battle outscoring the Saints 17-16 in the second quarter including a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer from Seattle Lettau. The hosts led 35-23 at intermission.
- The Saints started the second half on an 8-0 run before Alexis Sullivan broke the streak with a three-pointer. Sixteen points is the closest the Roos would get the remainder of the game as St. Lawrence pulled away.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shanelle Borth led the Roos with seven points, while Briana Brousseau posted season-highs of six points and eight rebounds. She was a perfect 2-for-2 from the field and the free throw line in 17 minutes of action.
- Chelsey Raven, Samantha Dayter, Joie Culkin, Sullivan and Lettau all chipped in five points apiece.
- Olivia Middleton led the Saints with 13 points, while Ava McCann (12) and Erin Kumler (10) also reached double figures.
- St. Lawrence controlled the boards (51-36) and points off turnovers (20-5).
WHAT'S NEXT?
The women's basketball team's contest originally scheduled for Monday January 3rd is canceled due to Paul Smith's COVID protocols. The Roos will return to North Atlantic Conference action on Friday (1/7) when they host Husson University at 6 p.m.
