HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Canton held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots in the opening period but neither team could find the back of the net as they skated to first intermission tied.
- The Roos got on the board at 6:57 of the middle period when Brendan McCormack and Carson Lanceleve skated into the offensive zone 2-on-1. McCormack found Lanceleve to his left who slid a low shot past the blocker of Bears goaltender Nico Gamarra. Sebastien Paquette was also credited with an assist on the play.
- Canton was whistled for back-to-back penalties resulting in 43 seconds of 5-on-3 for the Bears, but the Roo penalty kill was able to kill off both penalties.
- The Roos held a 10-4 advantage in second period shots and 1-0 lead on the scoreboard after 40 minutes.
- Skating 4-on-4 Canton added an important insurance marker at 11:58 of the third period off the stick of Sipperley on a sharp angled shot. McCormack and Matt Passaretti picked up assists on the play, the first collegiate point for Passaretti.
- Shortly after a Canton cross checking penalty, the Bears pulled their goalie for the two-skater advantage. That paid off as they got on the board with 1:31 left in regulation as Josh Bifolchi lit the lamp.
- Trailing by just one the Bears pulled their goalie again with 1:21 remaining but Brett Bannister converted an empty-netter with one second remaining off a pass from Paquette for the 3-1 final.
