Plattsburgh, NY – Chelsey Raven posted game-highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team used a strong third quarter to earn a 65-52 road win at Plattsburgh State in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.
Shanelle Borth also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The win is the first collegiate head coaching victory for SUNY Canton women's basketball Head Coach

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams proved to be extremely even in the opening half. Plattsburgh jumped out to a 15-8 lead early on as they hit their first four three-pointers. The Roos battled back with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 15 with just under four minutes left in the opening quarter. The Cardinals held a slim 21-19 advantage after one.
- Neither team led by more than four in the second quarter as the teams went into intermission deadlocked at 35.
- Raven led the Roos with 13 points in the first half hitting seven of her eight attempts from the charity stripe. Brinley Inglee paced the Cards with nine first half points.
- SUNY Canton shot 41.4 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes compared to 34.2 percent for Plattsburgh. The Roos committed 17 turnovers compared to just seven for the Cardinals.
- The Roos took control of the game in the third quarter outscoring the hosts, 17-6. SUNY Canton's defense stepped up holding Plattsburgh to just 3-for-21 shooting in the quarter
- Canton extended their lead to as many as 15 (58-43) with 6:59 to play in the fourth quarter and held a double-digit lead for the final nine plus minutes to close out the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Raven's 23 points and 15 rebounds are both new career-highs in a Roos uniform for the Ogdensburg native. She shot 7-for-13 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free throw line. Borth also recorded a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
- Maya Hodge (10), Seattle Lettau (9) and Joie Culkin (8) also chipped in solid scoring efforts in a balanced offensive attack. Samantha Dayter dished out a game-high six assists to go with seven rebounds and five blocks.
- The Roos held the upper hand in field goal percentage (39.7-26.0), rebounds (58-36), assists (13-10) and blocks (6-2).
- Inglee paced the Cardinals with 11 points, while Payton Couture added nine.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood next weekend when they take part in the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament. The Roos square off with the host Lions on Friday at 6 p.m.
