Raven’s Third Double-Double Leads Women’s Hoops Past Clarkson, 69-54

Potsdam, NY – Senior Chelsey Raven recorded her third double-double of the season with 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead the SUNY Canton women's basketball team to a 69-54 road win at Clarkson University on Tuesday evening.

The win is just the second for the Roos against Clarkson since SUNY Canton became a four-year institution and first in nine years as SUNY Canton defeated Clarkson, 69-62, on November 15, 2012.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the opening quarter as the Roos shot 53.3% from the floor compared to a 33.3% mark for Clarkson. Canton continued to own the advantage on the scoreboard, 21-18, in the second quarter as they took a double-digit lead at 38-27 into intermission.
  • Raven led all players with 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting in the opening 20 minutes, while Shanelle Borth added 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Seattle Lettau also had seven first-half points. Lauren Bell (11) and Mariah Benavides (10) paced the Knights in scoring.
  • SUNY Canton continued to hold a comfortable lead over the hosts extending their advantage to 54-39 after three quarters.
  • The teams were even at 15-15 over the final 10 minutes as the Roos closed out the convincing victory, 69-54.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos shot the ball extremely well hitting on 53.4% of their field goals and 36.4 percent of their three-point attempts as a team. Meanwhile, they held Clarkson to just 36.4% shooting from the field.
  • Canton dominated the glass outrebounding the Knights 42-26 including doubling up the hosts 12-6 on the offensive boards. The Roos controlled the paint outscoring Clarkson 48-18 inside.
  • Raven's 26 points are her highest total in a SUNY Canton uniform, while her 12 boards marks her second highest rebounding total. Borth established a new career best at SUNY Canton with 14 points on Tuesday with Raven and Borth combining to shoot 18-for-29 from the floor.
  • Samantha Dayter dished out a game-best six assists to go with nine points. She finished with a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Lettau recorded a career-best nine points as both her and Dayter hit on 4 of their six shot attempts. Briana Brousseau had a solid performance in 15 minutes off the bench supplying six points and five rebounds.
  • Bell and Benavides paced Clarkson with 15 points apiece shooting 11-for-21 from the field. The rest of the Knights made just nine of their 44 shot attempts.
 

WHAT'S NEXT?
The women's basketball is off until December 3rd when they host SUNY Poly in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and home opener at 7:30 p.m.
