Raven Posts Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Closes out Weekend v. Alfred

Erie, PA – Chelsey Raven posted her second double-double of the season but the SUNY Canton women's basketball team fell, 88-61, to Alfred University in the consolation game of the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams were extremely even early on with Alfred clinging to a 20-19 lead after the first quarter. The Saxons took a slim 41-34 lead into intermission.
  • The difference in the game proved to be in the third quarter where Alfred exploded for 32 points, outscoring the Roos by 20 in the stanza. The teams each scored 15 points in the fourth quarter leading to the 88-61 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Raven paced the Roos with 13 points and 10 rebounds hitting seven of her eight free throws to go with a pair of steals. Mya Hodge was the only other player in double figures for Canton with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting.
  • Shanelle Borth registered nine points, Joie Culkin and Alexis Sullivan added seven points each and Seattle Lettau finished with six points. Lettau added a game-best four assists.
  • The Roos shot better from the field than the Saxons (41.1% - 40.7%), but Canton turned the ball over 24 times compared to just 11 for Alfred.
  • Alfred had the big advantage in points off turnovers (29-10), points in the paint (44-32) and bench points (28-15).
  • The Saxons had five players score double figures in Grace Rittenhouse (16), Gillian Flint (14), Leah Harkenrider (14), Ana Ion (11) and Felicia Stewart (11).  

Chelsey Raven was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performances throughout the weekend.

The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Tuesday when they visit Houghton College at 7 p.m.
