Snook Scores Twice in Debut, Alvarez Records Shutout as Women’s Hockey Downs King’s 4-0

Pittston, PA – Sophomore Desiree Snook recorded a pair of goals in her debut and junior Sirena Alvarez stopped all eight shots she faced as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team opened their season with a 4-0 victory at King's College on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos outshot the Monarchs 10-1 in the opening period but the teams skated to first intermission with a scoreless tie.
  • SUNY Canton's dominance finally paid off at the 8:38 mark of the middle period when Snook lit the lamp on the power play off passes from Micayla MacIntyre and Meaghan Best.
  • The sophomore from Paradise, Newfoundland struck again just over two minutes later, this one coming at even strength. Sarah Kosnaskie and Iida Laitinen picked up helpers on the play as the Roos took the 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.
  • Assistant captain Verity Lewis made it 3-0 at 15:59 of the third period off a setup from Halle McKinnon and Gracyn Emmerton.
  • Sandrene Garofalo concluded the scoring with 40 seconds remaining as Makayla Young and Hannah Clement were credited with assists on the tally.

  • Canton outshot King's 44-8 in the contest and owned a 32-19 advantage in face offs.
  • The Roos went 1-for-4 on the power play and were 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
  • Alvarez made eight saves in the shutout, while Syd Dahl made 40 stops for the Monarchs
