"Theo has been an amazing addition to the SUNY Canton Esports roster," Murray said. "With a diverse group of characters at his disposal it is amazing to watch him play. Super proud to have the privilege of including him in our program and I can't wait to see where his career in esports brings him!"

We caught up with Cannamela for a question and answer feature on his play so far this season and to talk about the SUNY Canton Esports arena and the new SUNY Esports league.

Cannamela Question & Answer

Q: What is your major at SUNY Canton?

A: Esports Management

Q: How old were you when you first started gaming? When did you first begin playing Fortnite?

A: I played Linux games on my Dad's laptop before pre-K, so around five years old. I grew up playing the Wii and DS also.

Q: Describe Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for those who haven't heard of it before. What is the game play like?

A: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover platform fighting game from Nintendo. The goal is to knock the opponent to the edge of the screen to get KOs.

Q: Tell us about the SUNY Canton Esports arena. How has that helped you in developing your gaming?

A: I am an online student who lives off campus, but when I come to the arena for games It helps a lot. Being able to play in person with the team lets us strategize much easier than if we were all online.

Q: SUNY Canton has helped spearhead the start of a new SUNY Esports league. Your Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team is currently in first place in the SUNY standings at a perfect 4-0. How has this competition in a new league been?

A: While I very much enjoy the team aspect of ECAC's crew battles, having a 1 v. 1 league through SUNY Esports is a nice change of pace, especially since traditional Smash Bros. competition is 1 v. 1.

Q: Of your four matches you had a 3-2 win that went down to the wire against SUNY Geneseo. Tell us a little about that match.

A: During round 2 of the SUNY league, I played Nanos of SUNY Geneseo, who played Donkey Kong. I play Bowser, the heaviest character in the game, who takes advantage of his high weight and great power vs. lighter opponents. DK is also a heavyweight however, so that makes it harder to abuse Bowser's strengths, which is one factor to why the match was so even and went to game 5.

Cannamela will put his unbeaten mark on the line on Tuesday evening when he squares off with Stony Brook University at 8 PM.
