Bedborough Gives Roos Early Lead but No. 1 Plattsburgh Storms Back for Win

Plattsburgh, NY Breanna Bedborough gave the SUNY Canton women's hockeyt eam an early 1-0 lead at No. 1 nationally-ranked Plattsburgh State but the host Cardinals stormed back for a 9-1 victory in Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) action on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos took an early lead just 2:57 into the contest when Jordan Emerson took a shot from the left point that was redirected home out in front by Breanna Bedborough.
  • The Cardinals evened the game at one five minutes later when Erin McArdle scored off passes fromIvy Boric and Taylor Whitney. Plattsburgh took its first lead of the game at 10:22 of the opening period on a power play goal from Sara Krauseneck.
  • Canton nearly tied the game once again with four minutes to play in the first. Bedborough made a great pass from behind the net to Natasha Simioni in the slot but Chloe Beaubien was able to make an impressive save with the blocker on the Simioni shot.
  • Krauseneck tallied her second goal of the game with 3:13 to play and Hanna Rose added a power play tally with 1:46 to go as the Cardinals took a 4-1 lead into first intermission.
  • Sarah Wolf scored, Krauseneck completed the hat trick and Abby Brush added a pair of goals in the second period to open an 8-1 advantage after two. Holly Schmelzer added a third period goal for the 9-1 final.
  • Sirena Alvarez made 23 saves over the first 23:37, while Brooke Susac turned aside 27 shots over the final 36:23.
  • Beaubien made 16 stops in the win for the Cardinals.
  • Plattsburgh went 3-for-8 on the power play while killing off all four of their penalties.

These two teams will have a rematch on Saturday in Canton at 5:30 PM.
