Men’s Hockey Extends Unbeaten Streak to Eight with 4-3 Win at Fredonia

Fredonia, NY –  Four different players scored goals, Austin Washkurak made 31 saves and Connor Tuttle posted a game-best +3 on-ice rating as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 4-3 road win at Fredonia on Friday evening.

The Roos, who received 30 votes in this week's USCHO Top 15 Poll, are 7-0-1 in their last eight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts got off to an early 1-0 lead cashing in 27 seconds into a power play chance when Charlie Manley scored his eighth goal o the season.
  • The Roos wasted no time responding as 34 seconds later Noah Robinson put home his fourth goal of the season. Adam Petric and Bailey Conklin were credited with assists on the play.
  • Just less than two minutes later Jake Mayette gave the Roos their first lead of the contest when he lit the lamp off Kyler Matthews team-leading 13th assist of the season. Entering today Matthews ranked tied for 27th in the country in assists per game (0.92). Jesse Farabee also earned an assist.
  • Victor Tracy tied the game at two apiece at 18:03 of the first period as the teams were tied at two after 20 minutes.
  • Farabee buried his team-leading 12th goal of the season at 4:38 of the second period on the power play. The score is his eighth on the power play this season. Entering today the junior ranked tied for seventh in the nation in goals per game (0.85) and second in power play goals (7).
  • One minute and 15 seconds later Canton extended the lead to two on what proved to be an important insurance goal. Brendan McCormack finished off his fourth goal of the season with Tuttle picking up his first assist of the year and Sam Martin earning his second helper in as many games. Tuttle led all players with a +3 on-ice rating on the evening.
  • The Blue Devils got one back at 15:58 of the second period on Tommy Martyn's first of the year.
  • Canton killed off three penalties in the third period and their penalty kill was 6-for-7 overall. The Roos went 1-for-5 on the power play.
  • Washkurak had a strong outing between the pipes making 31 saves including stopping all 10 shots he faced in the third period to preserve the win. He improves to 5-1-0 on the season in net.
  • Dalton Jerzak allowed all four goals over the first 25:53 in the loss, while Ryan Pascarella made six saves over the final 32:27 in relief.
