Women’s Lacrosse Closes out Historic Season in NCAA Championship First Round

Pittsford, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team closed out a historic season with a 16-3 loss to No. 15/21 nationally-ranked Brockport in the NCAA Championship First Round on Saturday at Growney Stadium on the campus of St. John Fisher College.

The Roos finish the 2019 season with a school record 14 wins and became the first SUNY Canton team to earn a berth in an NCAA Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brockport opened up a 5-0 lead just over seven minutes in as five Golden Eagles found the back of the net.
  • Jessica Pele got the Roos on the board converting off a free-position shot just more than 10 minutes into the contest.
  • The Eagles rattled off seven more unanswered goals to take a 12-1 lead into intermission.
  • MaryClare Bowes fed Logan Bush for a score and Pele followed with her second score of the game to trim the deficit to single digits. Brockport scored four goals to secure the victory.
  • Molly Denny led all players with five ground balls Cecelia Neally had a team-high two caused turnovers. Pele and Bush produced a game-high four draw controls each as the Roos held the upper hand in draws, 12-8.
  • Jade Williams led Brockport with four goals, while Sara Grapevine had a goal and four assists and Chloe Kurst added two goals and three assists.
  • Madison Leary took the loss for the Roos, while Nicole Piskorowski made 12 saves over the final 50 minutes. Morgan Elmer made seven stops in the win for the Eagles.
