Denny Ties Single-Season Points Mark as Roos Cruise to NAC Championship Game

Canton, NY -- Molly Denny led all players with five goals and tied the single-season program points mark as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-4 win v. Husson University in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinal contest on Saturday.

The Roos will host Maine Farmington next Saturday for the NAC Championship with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers defeated Maine Maritime Academy in another NAC semifinal contest, 12-4, on Saturday.

Denny now sits at 85 points on the season which ties the mark set by Tressa Goolden during the 2015 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Denny led all players with five goals and two assists, while Jessica Pele added three goals and two assists. MaryClare Bowes and Stephanie Thayer totaled two goals and two assists each, while Lindsey Ingram, Cecelia Neally and EllaRose LeMay all scored twice.
  • Erin Grandaw and Logan Bush scored once each, while Bush and Pele added game-highs of five draw controls. Denny chipped in five ground balls and four draw controls, while Mia Jermano caused a game-high three turnovers to go with four ground balls.
  • Canton scored the first 10 goals of the game and took a commanding 15-1 lead into intermission. Husson scored three second-half goals as the Roos cruised to victory.
  • Madison Leary stopped one shot in the start to earn the win, while Nicole Piskorowski turned aside two shots after halftime. Mallory Burchill made 10 saves for the Eagles.
  • Maddy Olsen scored twice for Husson, while Cali Newton and Sierra Connor-Schade had one score each.
  • SUNY Canton controlled shots on goal (30-7), ground balls (25-18), draw controls (18-7) and were 8-for-13 on free-position shots.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Roos host Maine Farmington on Saturday, May 4th in the NAC Championship game. The winner advances to the 2019 Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament. Game time next Saturday is to be announced.
