CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY – Senior Noelle Niemiec capped off a terrific weekend with two goals and an assist as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 3-3 Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) tie v. Becker College on Saturday afternoon.

With the tie and Nichols College defeating the University of New England, the Roos have earned the right to host a CHC quarterfinal game next Saturday.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 3, Becker 3, OT
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (10-10-5, 5-5-2 CHC) | Becker College (4-17-4, 1-9-2 CHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Becker jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 8:07 of the first period on Bailey Coons second goal in as many nights. The Roos responded with 1:15 remaining on the power play when Micayla Macintyre swung the puck from left to right to Niemiec near the blue line. Her shot was redirected home out in front by Ashley Gillies.
  • The Hawks received a pair of second period goals off the sticks of Claudia Gee and Clare Conway to lead 3-1 after two.
  • Niemiec got Canton within one at 5:12 of the third. Gillies won the puck at mid-ice and floated a pass over the Becker defense where Niemiec finished stick side.
  • The Roos pulled Brooke Susac for the extra attacker with 1:27 remaining and that paid off with 26 seconds remaining when Niemiec tallied her third goal in two nights. Jessica Pele won the faceoff at the left circle back to Niemiec. Niemiec hit Sarah Kosnaskie at the point who delivered it back to Niemiec for a one-timer that made its way through traffic past Julia Johnson.
  • Canton outshot Becker 6-0 in overtime but Johnson was up to the task to keep the game a tie.
  • Susac made 13 saves for the Roos, while Johnson turned aside 39 shots for the Hawks.

The Roos recognized their 10 graduating players in Grace Page, Kaylah Menchaca, Whitney Bernier, Brittany Miner, Jessica Pele, Noelle Niemiec, Tia Tassava, Emily Dolphin, Hannah Brady and Illie Berisha in a postgame ceremony.
