SUNY Canton Takes Part in 2019 Empire State Winter Games Torch Relay

Canton, NY – The Empire State Games torch relay ran through the SUNY Canton campus this morning as four student-athletes and Roody took part in the relay at 5 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

The relay began at the main entrance to campus as the student-athletes formed a relay traveling up the hill to the illuminated sign veering right down the bill past Kennedy Hall and over the footbridges towards Riverside Drive.

Tia Tassava, a senior on the women's golf and hockey teams, Jayde Dukette, a freshman on the women's hockey team, Raechel Yost, a senior on the softball team, and Josh Godbout, a sophomore on the men's cross country team, took part in the relay along with Roody Roo, SUNY Canton's mascot.

Following the relay at SUNY Canton the torch was passed on to St. Lawrence University. Students at St. Lawrence planned to run the torch to Clarkson University. There are two separate torch relays throughout New York State beginning in Buffalo and New York City with both torches scheduled to finish up in Lake Placid Thursday evening for the opening ceremonies.
