Canton, NY – Following the team's top ranked win in school history last week, freshman
Adam Petric and junior
Michael Cerasuolo were two of just six NCAA Division III men's hockey players honored nationally for their performances on the ice last week.
Â
Petric posted his first collegiate hat trick in a 6-4 win at No. 3 nationally-ranked Adrian College on Sunday. Entering the game with two goals on the season, the rookie gave the Roos a 2-1 lead at 2:28 of the second period. He extended the Canton lead to 5-3 on a crucial insurance goal at 2:12 of the third period and iced the game and the Roos top win v. a ranked opponent in school history with an empty netter with five seconds remaining.
Â
Cerasuolo had a monster outing in goal stopping a career-high 47 shots in a win over Adrian, including an incredible 21 shots in the second period where the Roos outscored No. 3 Adrian 3-1. He had at least 10 saves in every period stopping 10 in the first and 16 more in the final period to stave off a Bulldog comeback bid. Cerasuolo's previous career high of 44 saves came in a 4-3 Roos win at No. 8 Plattsburgh State to open the 2017-18 season on October 28, 2017.
The Roos have now beaten a pair of top 15 nationally-ranked opponents in the month of December. Petric and Cerasuolo are just the third and fourth SUNY Canton men's hockey players to be named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week joining
Ben Beasley '18 (12/1/15) and
Josh Sova '18, (11/1/17) who also earned the honor.
Â
The team will head to Oswego State this weekend for the prestigious Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Hockey Classic. Canton opens play v. Concordia-Wisconsin on Friday at 4 p.m. with the winners of that contest and Oswego State-Salve Regina playing for the championship on Saturday at 7 p.m. Live coverage is available for all games in the tournament by visiting the Roos
