CHS BOX SCORE
Canton, NY – Breanna Bedborough scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Roos an early lead but visiting SUNY Cortland tallied a pair of second period goals to earn a 2-1 victory in non-conference action on Tuesday.
THE BASICS
- Result:Â SUNY Cortland 2 SUNY Canton 1
- Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
- Records:Â SUNY Cortland (7-5-3) | SUNY Canton (7-6-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got on the board first when Hannah Brady collected the puck behind the Cortland goal and found Kaylah Menchaca out in front. Her attempt to shoot the puck toward net resulted in Breanna Bedborough with the puck right in front of Cortland goaltender Chelsea Allain. Bedborough buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
- Cortland responded at the 9:07 mark of the second period when Quinn Metcalfe dumped the puck low on the right side for Emily King. King played a cross-ice pass directly in front of a screened Susac as Katelinn Cumings beat her stick side to knot the game at one. Â
- The Red Dragons took their first lead of the game with the skater advantage with one minute, 35 seconds left in the middle period. Olivia Wilburn ripped a shot from the point that appeared to deflect off a Canton defender and redirect in. Grace Schnorr and Katy Kennedy earned helpers on the play.
- The Roos pulled the goalie with 1 minute, four seconds remaining in favor of the extra attacker. Canton generated several quality opportunities late but missed a partially open net in the final 30 seconds as Cortland hung on.
- Susac turned aside 19 shots in the loss for Canton, while Allain made 16 stops for Cortland.Â
- The Red Dragons were 1-for-2 on the power play and killed off their lone penalty.
WHAT'S NEXT
