Women’s Volleyball Splits Pair of Five Set Matches on Saturday

Keuka Park, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of five set matches at the Keuka Tournament on Saturday to improve to 6-1 on the season.

The Roos fell 3-2 (22-25, 25-13, 25-18, 16-25, 12-15) to host Keuka in the opener before coming back to earn a 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 15-10) victory v. Hartwick College in the second match.

Match 1 – Box Score
After falling 25-22 in the opener the Roos bounced back with 25-13 and 25-18 wins to take a 2-1 sets lead. The Wolves earned a 25-16 fourth set victory to force a decisive fifth set. The Wolves prevailed 15-12 in the fifth to hand the Roos their first loss of the season.

Tatum LaFrance led Canton with 11 kills, while Melissa McMaster added nine kills and Marissa Ixtlahuac totaled eight kills but tallied seven errors. Camryn Smeatin chipped in seven kills, Peyton Robinson dished out 30 assists, Jeanna Roat recorded a match-high 26 digs and Jenifer Morgan-Aubin finished with a match-best five service aces.

Match 2 – Box Score
SUNY Canton started the match with 26 kills compared to just four errors over the opening two sets hitting at a .310 clip to take a two sets to none lead. The Roos committed 14 hitting errors in the third and fourth sets as Hartwick evened the match. SUNY Canton bounced back with seven kills on 15 points in the final set to earn the thrilling victory.

Skye Hansen and McMaster led the Roos with 13 kills apiece, while LaFrance totaled 10 kills and 14 digs. Robinson dished out 41 assists to go with her 18 digs. Roat and Jenifer Morgan-Aubin chipped in 18 and 11 digs, respectively.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Friday at the Oswego State Tournament when the Roos square off with the host Lakers at 4 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. tilt v. Utica.
