Three First Half Scores Lifts Men’s Soccer Past Maine Maritime, 3-1

Canton, NY –  Conner Morse, Kyle Smith and Edward Malinoski, Jr. all scored first half goals to lift the SUNY Canton men's soccer team to a 3-1 win v. Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday.

Morse got the scoring started in the seventh minute with his third goal in as many games. He collected a loose, deflected ball in the box and calmly beat Maine Maritime keeper Andrew Coleman into the lower left corner.

The Roos (3-4-2, 1-1-0 NAC) doubled their lead 12 minutes later when Kevin Velasquez delivered a pass through the central midfield to Kyle Smith. He blasted a shot from 30 yards out that struck off the crossbar and off the back of the keeper for an impressive goal.

SUNY Canton made it 3-0 in the 37th minute on a beautiful display of teamwork as Smith played the ball up to Dustin Brown on the left wing who found Brett Anderson for a give-and-go. After receiving the ball back, Brown quickly left a pass in for Edward Malinoski, Jr. who finished into the right corner.

The Mariners (2-4-1, 1-1-0 NAC) got on the board in the 62nd minute on a Roos defensive miscue as Matthew Caron netted his third goal of the season for the 3-1 final.

Mouhammed Thiam made four saves in goal for the Roos, while Andrew Coleman made four stops in the first half and Joshua Reeks stopped three after halftime for MMA.
