Five Straight: Roos Hold Broncos Scoreless in First Half of 16-3 Victory

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team shut out visiting SUNY Delhi in the first half on its way to its fifth straight victory defeating the Broncos, 16-3, on Saturday.
 
The Roos (5-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and held visiting SUNY Delhi scoreless over the first half as the hosts took an 11-0 lead into intermission. Trenton Yule and Josh Yelvington combined for seven first half goals for SUNY Canton.
 
SUNY Delhi (2-4) got on the board with the man advantage with 8:45 to play in the third quarter but Canton continued to control the game down the stretch earning the 16-3 victory.
 




The Roos controlled face offs (17-6), ground balls (44-28) and shots on goal (27-18). Kody Kocsis made eight saves for Canton over the first 47:49, while Justin LaDuke turned aside seven shots over the final 12:11. Eric Morse made 11 stops for Delhi over 49 minutes of action.
 
The three goals are the fewest given up by the Roos since they surrendered just three goals in a 22-3 win v. Lyndon State on March 15, 2014.
 
Trevor Hughes went 17-for-19 in the X for the Roos picking up a game-high eight ground balls. Trenton Yule led Canton with five goals, while Kyle Smith added one goal and four assists. Josh Yelvington finished with three goals, while Dante Coco and Andrew Garrett finished with two goals apiece. Jake Sutton posted a pair of goals to go with one assist, while Smith and Brandon Rodee added five ground balls apiece.
