Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team scored two goals in a 40 second span in the final 1 minute, 21 seconds of regulation to earn a 3-3 overtime tie v. visiting Johnson & Wales University in the regular season finale on Saturday.
 
The Roos move to 9-13-3 overall and 5-5-2 in Colonial Hockey Conference play locking up the three seed in the upcoming playoffs. The Wildcats move to 9-12-4 and 3-5-4 CHC earning the six seed in the playoffs.
 
SUNY Canton will host Becker College in a CHC Quarterfinal matchup next Saturday, February 24th at 4 p.m. in the Roos House.
 
Johnson and Wales University jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Kathryn Mason scored 46 seconds into the second period. Grace Page responded netting her third goal of the season off a pass from Breanna Bedborough as the Wildcats turned the puck over in their defensive zone.
 
The Wildcats scored a pair of goals off the sticks of Drea Westgaard and Cassie Wakefield just over four minutes apart to take a 3-1 lead.
 
Canton pulled Brooke Susac for the extra skater with 1:23 remaining and just two seconds later Alexa Parigi put home her second goal off a scramble out in front. Jessica Pele and Tessa Dobson earned helpers on the play.
 
Susac re-entered the game for 25 seconds and when the Roos regained their offensive zone she was pulled once again as 15 seconds later Canton knotted the game at one as Tess Adams buried her team-leading 13th goal of the season. Pele and Gillies were credited with assists on the play as the teams skated to overtime.
 
Canton had two shots on goal in overtime compared to one for the Wildcats as the teams would settle for a tie. Susac made 20 saves, while Kami Weiner turned aside 29 shots for JWU.
 
The women's hockey team celebrated K-9 Unit Appreciation Day prior to their contest. They honored local K-9 Units, and officers from US Border Patrol, New York State Police, Sheriff's Departments, and local Police Departments were present. These officers and canines risk their lives every day to protect our communities, and we thank them for their prominent dedication and sacrifice. In addition to generous donations of dog food and toys at the door, the SUNY Canton Criminal Justice department has also been working to support these K-9 Units. The Roos offered a special thanks to their guests of honor, Officers Ben LaBaff, Travis MacDonald, and Brandon Huckle, for assisting us our efforts in putting this game together and connecting us with all of the officers and canines that were in attendance.
