Bernier & Adams Score and Susac Records Shutout as Roos Punch Ticket to CHC Semis

Canton, NY – Whitney Bernier broke a scoreless tie at 16:20 of the second period and Tess Adams added an empty-netter as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team earned a 2-0 shutout v. Becker College in the Colonial Hockey Conference quarterfinal on Saturday.
 
Brooke Susac stopped all 15 shots she faced to earn the shutout. The Roos advance to the CHC Semifinals hosted by Morrisville State where they will square off with two seed Endicott College next Saturday.
 
The Roos (10-13-3) dominated the opening period owning a 14-0 advantage in shots on goal but Julia Johnson stopped all 14 shots she faced to keep the game scoreless after one.
 
 
SUNY Canton had a slim 10-9 shots advantage in the second period and that paid off at16:20 of the middle period when Whitney Bernier slotted her fifth goal of the season. Her initial shot went right of net off the back boards and the puck came right to the right post where she jammed home a shot past Johnson. Tess Adams and Ashley Gillies earned helpers on the play.
 
Becker (4-19-3) pulled Johnson for the extra skater with 37 seconds remaining and just seven seconds later Adams buried an empty-netter. Noelle Niemiec and Micayla Macintyre earned assists on the game-sealing tally.
 
 
Johnson made 38 saves in the loss for the Hawks. Becker went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Roos were 0-for-5.
