Holliday, Jr. and Werner Post Double-Doubles as Strong Second Half Carries Roos Past Cazenovia

Cazenovia, NY – Robert Holliday, Jr. and Joseph Werner both posted double-doubles as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team outscored host Cazenovia by 17 points after halftime to earn an 80-69 non-league win on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holliday, Jr. posted a game-high 20 points to go with 11 rebounds, while Werner recorded 12 points and a game-best 13 rebounds. Jordan Stewart also scored in double figures, while Danny Santana and Brandon Palmer added eight and seven points, respectively.
  • Cazenovia built and eight-point lead in the opening half and led 36-30 at intermission.
  • SUNY Canton took its first lead of the second half at 44-43 following a Palmer layup. The Roos extended their lead to double digits after Werner hit a jumper to make it 62-51 with 8:50 remaining. Cazenovia never got closer than seven the remainder of the way.
  • Canton shot 66.7 percent in the second half (20-for-30) while holding the Wildcats to 39 percent shooting.
  • The Roos bench outscored the Cazenovia reserves, 31-18.
  • Will Cutler paced the Wildcats with 16 points, while Jaceary Menes added 14 points.

FROM THE BENCH
"I thought that we came out really flat today, but we responded really well with great effort after halftime," Head Coach Ben Thompson said. "Kahdean's defense as huge for us coming back in this game. Cazenovia plays so hard and creates so many mismatches, but I am proud of how we matched their energy and responded after the loss yesterday."

The men's basketball team will take on Paul Smith's College on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Barclays Center, home of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Brooklyn Nets.
