Holliday, Jr. and Adkisson Lead Balanced Offensive Effort in Last Second Loss at Clarkson

Potsdam, NY – Robert Holliday, Jr. led four Roos in double figures with 19 points but Matt Higgins used an old-fashioned three-point play with 12 seconds left to lead host Clarkson University to an 81-78 victory v. the SUNY Canton men's basketball team in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos and Golden Knights were tied at 74 with three minutes remaining following a three-pointer from Joseph Werner. Higgins regained the Knights lead with 1:51 at 77-74 after he hit a three-pointer.
  • Jordan Stewart hit a pair of free throws with 1:09 remaining and Canton tied the game at 77 after Andrew Fitch split a pair of free throws with 36 seconds to play.
  • Clarkson took an 80-77 lead with 12 seconds remaining after the Higgins three-point play.  
  • Brandon Adkisson and Higgins split a pair of free throws each as Clarkson clung to a three-point lead and SUNY Canton was unable to hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to tie the game.
  • Holliday led the Roos with 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Adkisson chipped in 17 points and four assists, while Fitch added 11 points, seven rebounds and six blocks. Stewart totaled 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Higgins tallied a game-high 24 points for Clarkson, while Jason Phelps and Roburt Welch added 15 points each.
  • The Knights bench outscored the Roos 45-16, while Canton had the upper hand in points in the paint, 40-20.

The men's basketball team has a quick turnaround as it travels to take on No. 24 nationally-ranked Middlebury College on New Year's Day at 3 p.m.
