Washkurak Makes 28 Saves in Road Setback at Trine

Angola, IN – Austin Washkurak made 28 saves but host Trine University scored three times in the second and third periods, including twice on the power play, to earn a 3-0 win v. the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Thunder special teams proved to be the difference as they went 2-for-3 on the power play and killed off all three of their penalties.
  • Alex Johanson broke a scoreless game at 15:30 of the middle period on the power play. The Thunder doubled their lead 23 seconds later when Gianni Vitali lit the lamp for the second time of the season.
  • Michael Meisenbacher extended the Trine lead to three just 29 seconds into the third period with the skater advantage.
  • Washkurak stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced and allowed just one goal at even strength, while Brett Young made 23 saves in the shutout for the hosts.
  • Joe Deveny paced Canton with seven shots, while Max Routledge added three.
