SUNY Canton Pedals into Fall Frenzy Electric Eight

Canton, NY – SUNY Canton has biked its way to the final eight teams in a knockout-style cycling tournament. Nearly 100 SUNY Canton Fitness Center bikers pedaled more than 550 miles in two days to roll into the quarterfinal round of the Fall Frenzy Expresso Ride Challenge. The Roos have advanced through the first two rounds of the competition that started with 218 schools.

"There are some tired legs, but to make it to the final eight schools is quite an accomplishment," said Fitness Center Director/Pedal Pusher Bryan Parker. "Our men's hockey team got off their skates and logged almost half of our most recent total, and we had major contributions from other athletic teams as well as our dedicated fitness center members, faculty and staff."

In the Super Sixteen round, the 13th seeded Roos upset 5th seeded Cedarville University from Ohio by more than 200 miles, 551-307. In its quest for the Golden Spokes trophy, the Roos will next take on the defending Fall Frenzy Champions from Binghamton University in an attempt to reach the Fearsome Four round. Binghamton is once again considered a top team. The Bearcats outlasted Assumption College from Massachusetts 592-200 this week to advance to the Electric Eight.

The competition where "The Roads are Digital, but the Sweat is Real" will resume next week, October 10-11. Parker says he'll be looking to organize riders in shifts in order to maximize ride time, miles and muscle power.

"Binghamton is a Division I school with nearly 14,000 students, but we think we can match up against them," said a sweaty Parker. "Our mileage was comparable in this past round, so we just need to grease the wheels and keep pedaling forward."

Others schools remaining in the competition include: Carnegie Mellon University from Pittsburgh, SUNY Oswego, Marist College from Poughkeepsie, University of Rochester, University of Virginia at Wise and Schoolcraft College from Michigan.
