Canton, NY – Brooke Susac stopped 19 shots but the SUNY Canton women's hockey team was held scoreless as Rachael Farmer backstopped Cortland with a 21 save shutout in a 2-0 win on Tuesday afternoon.
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period as Cortland held a slim, 9-8 shots advantage. The Roos went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill including killing off an extended 1 minute, 25 seconds of 5-on-3 action.
Cortland (6-7-2), winners of four straight, took a 1-0 lead at 10:51 of the middle period when Emily King deflected the puck at the far boards in the neutral zone to Miranda Kolb who skated in on net.
Brooke Susac made the initial save but the rebound went right to Emily Rose who backhanded home her second of the season.
The Red Dragons doubled their lead less than four minutes later when Charlie Calamari tipped the puck away defensively and skated in on the breakaway beating Susac across the face of goal over the stick. The Roos outshot the Red Dragons 8-7 in the second period but Cortland took a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Canton (6-7-1) had some great chances in the third period including an extended 4-on-3 and a
Grace Page shot that just missed along with a
Jessica Pele shot that clanged off the cross bar as Cortland held on for the 2-0 win.
Susac made 19 saves, while Rachael Farmer stopped all 21 shots she faced in the win. The Roos penalty kill was 6-for-6, while they went 0-for-3 on the power play.
