Hyland Posts Seven Hits as Softball Explodes for 25 Runs in Sweep v. Pioneers

Alfred, NY – Courtney Hyland went 7-for-9 driving in five runs as the SUNY Canton softball team exploded for 25 runs in a doubleheader sweep at Alfred State on Sunday.

The Roos (14-9) earned a 14-10 win in the opener before defeating the host Pioneers (3-21) 11-6 in the nightcap.

Game 1 – Box Score
Canton fell behind 6-1 after three innings in the opener but scored 13 runs in the fourth through sixth innings to earn a come-from-behind victory. Six different players had multi-hit outings as Rhea Coad, Jaedyn Ossont, Kaleigh Foran, Desiree Pryce, Brittany Staltare and Hyland all accomplished the feat.

Hyland finished with three doubles and four hits hitting in the cleanup spot, while Ossont, Foran and Pryce all finished with two hits and drove in three runs.

Kelsey White improved to 3-3 on the year tossing 4.2 innings in relief giving up three earned runs on four hits, while Jordan Podkladek earned the no-decision. Trisha Shingleton took the loss giving up 14 runs on 15 hits.

Game 2 – Box Score
The Roos once again used a seven-run inning to open a 10-1 advantage after their at-bats in the third and cruised to a fourth victory in two days v. the Pioneers.

Hyland once again led the offense with three hits and drove in four runs. Coad also had another strong outing driving in three runs and Stefanie Miller recorded a pair of hits.

Annie Sharlow improved to 3-3 on the season giving up six earned runs with seven strike outs tossing a complete game. Jordan Leonard earned the loss giving up six earned runs in 2.1 innings for Alfred State.
