Aurora, NY – Luke DeGaetano scored a team-high five goals including the game-winner with 1 minute, 11 seconds remaining as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team earned a 14-13 road win at Wells College on Thursday.
The Roos (3-5) scored four straight goals to turn an 11-9 deficit late in the third quarter into a 13-11 lead after
Jake Sutton's third goal of the contest with 9:53 remaining. Wells (1-3) received back-to-back man-up goals from Tanner Mingen and Aaron Heisey to knot the game at 13 apiece setting up the DeGaetano heroics.
SUNY Canton outscored Wells 6-3 in the second quarter to knot the game at eight heading to intermission. The Express outscored Canton 3-2 in the third quarter to take the one goal advantage into the fourth quarter but the Roos doubled Wells up 4-2 in the fourth quarter.
DeGaetano led the Roos with five goals, while
Josh Yelvington added three goals and two assists. Sutton added three goals, while
Trenton Yule (2-1-3),
Cam Carter (1-2-3) and
Kyle Smith (0-3-3) all had three point efforts.
Brandon Rodee controlled play in the midfield with a team-best nine ground balls, while Carter added six ground balls and
Hunter Yerdon forced a pair of turnovers.
Trevor Hughes one 14 faceoffs for the Roos including three in the fourth quarter.
Kody Kocsis made eight saves between the pipes in the win, while Nick Hallinan turned aside 14 shots for the Express.
