Softball Drops Opener, Nightcap Suspended on Monday

Little River, SC – The SUNY Canton softball team dropped its season opener 7-0 before seeing its second game suspended after four innings as they opened the season in the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic on Monday in Myrtle Beach.

Game 1 – Box Score
The Roos opened the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles from Rhea Coad and Kaleigh Foran but a fielder's choice and pair of infield outs ended the inning. The top of the second saw Albertus Magnus leadoff the inning reaching on an error and moving all the way to third but Jordan Podkladek shut the door with a pair of pop-ups to short and inducing a ground out to get out of a jam.

The Falcons did much of their damage in the third inning as the Roos committed three errors leading to four runs. L. Anderson drove in a pair of runs with a bases loaded single to center in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-0. AMC added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double to right center off the bat of D. Wehder.

Game 2 – Box Score
Spalding scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI walk and single. Coad finished with the lone hit for the Roos. The contest was halted after four due to rain and it appears the game will not be resumed. If it isn't the contest will not count as the minimum of five innings was not completed.

The softball team is off on Tuesday before squaring off with Bay Path University at 9:30 a.m. and Sarah Lawrence College at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
