Bernier Nets Third of the Season as Utica Snaps Roos Three Game Win Streak

Utica, NY – Whitney Bernier gave the SUNY Canton women's hockey team an early 1-0 lead but host Utica College scored four straight goals to earn a 4-1 win at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday evening.
 
Bernier put home a loose puck in front of goal at the 5:58 mark of the first as Tess Adams and Hannah Brady were credited with helpers on the play. Samantha Husk knotted the game at one apiece for the Pioneers at 16:49 on her third tally of the season on a slap shot from the point that beat Brooke Susac glove side. The teams skated to first intermission tied at one.
 
The Pioneers (6-3-0) outshot the Roos (4-2-0) 13-6 in the second period and that paid off at 8:32 when Carlie Smith slotted the eventual game-winner beating Susac short side. Meghan Power and Elizabeth Dohner added third period goals netting their second goals of the season for the 4-1 final.
 
Susac made 26 saves for the Roos, while Gabrielle Igo turned aside 14 shots for Utica. The Pioneers went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Canton was 0-for-4.
