Stellar Second Half Leads Roos Past Bobcats, 5-0

Canton, NY – SUNY Canton scored four goals in a 10-minute span in the second half to earn a 5-0 win against visiting Paul Smith's College on Tuesday.

In a first half dominated by the Roos, the hosts finally broke through in the 43rd minute. Omar Qadiri, who had just entered the game on the corner kick, delivered his second goal of the season after Maurizio Paniconi found him off a pass from the right corner. The Roos held a 9-3 shots and 3-1 shots on goal advantage in the opening half.

The Roos (8-8-1) erupted for four second half goals in less than a 10-minute span. Mourtada Diop netted his first career goal off a loose ball from a Kyle Smith corner kick. SUNY Canton extended the lead to 3-0 just 31 seconds later as Demba Ba made a beautiful individual effort down the right sideline and beat Paul Smith's goalkeeper Thatcher Morrison from a tight angle.

Marc Ramirez added to the scoring in the 58th minute when he sat on the doorstep and put home a rebound off an initial shot by Smith that was turned aside by Morrison. Erdous Lebron closed out the scoring two minutes later when Josh Geller started the buildup picking off a pass and found Smith. The junior showed great unselfish play by leaving a drop-off pass to Lebron who finished into the left corner for the 5-0 final.

Austin Lamay, Connor Campbell and Mouhammed Thiam combined for a three save shutout as Lamay got the start over the opening 40 minutes, followed by 40 minutes from Campbell with Thiam covering the last nine plus minutes. Morrison made eight saves for the Bobcats (6-8-0).
