Malinoski Scores Twice in 2-1 Win v. Alfred State on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Edward Malinoski, Jr. scored a pair of first-half goals to lift the SUNY Canton men's soccer team to a 2-1 win against visiting Alfred State College on Saturday.

The Roos (7-7-1) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Marc Ramirez picked off a pass at the edge of the Roos offensive third and pinpointed a pass to Malinoski between multiple Pioneer defenders. Malinoski turned and beat charging Alfred State keeper Johnny Starzee just inside the left post.

Malinoski doubled the Roos lead 15 minutes later when the Roos caught the Alfred State defense off guard. Kyle Smith threw the ball in from the near sideline to a cutting Malinoski who beat the keeper into the left corner once again.

The Roos owned a 6-2 shots and 3-0 shots on goal advantage taking a 1-0 lead into intermission.

Alfred State (2-11-1) got within one following a SUNY Canton turnover in their defensive third. Kory Zimmer picked off a pass and immediately fired a shot from 25 yards out into the top left corner.

With eight minutes remaining the Roos had a great opportunity off great individual hustle from Josh Geller. He played a cross from the right side to Ellis Sanchez at the left post. He was unable to get a shot on goal but the loose ball went to Malinoski as his shot was saved.

Connor Campbell made five saves for the Roos. Starzee turned aside two shots for Alfred State and Vince Biancuzzo finished the final seven minutes for the Pioneers.
