Brockport, NY – Josh Sova posted a goal and assist but host Brockport scored with 2:31 remaining to earn a 4-3 victory over the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Friday evening.
The hosts opened the scoring at 5:15 of the opening period as Brian Hurlimann scored off passes from Chris Pollini and Connor Hutchins. Despite the Roos owning advantages in shots (14-11) and faceoff wins (12-9) the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Roos (7-11-2) knotted the game at one as
Joe Deveny scored his fifth goal of the season and fourth on the power play at 4:33 of the middle period.
Kasey Kulczycki and
Kyle Matsumoto earned helpers on the play. Brockport was quick to respond just 22 seconds later as Kevin Chilton cashed in on an unassisted tally.
Canton once again produced with the skater advantage as
Tyler Bullard his
Josh Sova who put home his eighth goal of the season at 9:37 to tie the game for a second time. The Roos dominated shots in the second period, 13-6, but 11 saves from Brockport goaltender Jake Moore kept the game tied after two.
Brockport (8-10-1) took its third lead of the game just 39 seconds into the final period when Jake Taylor slotted his 12th goal of the season. Canton knotted the game at 3-3 when Sova hit
Vili-Jesper Koivula with a breakout pass as he lit the lamp for a team-best 13th time at 8:29.
Brockport scored with 2:31 remaining off the stick of Zack Sikich to earn the late win. The Roos called timeout with 29 seconds to play and the Golden Eagles were whistled for a penalty with 10 seconds left to create a 6-on-4 but held on for the win.
The Roos outshot the Golden Eagles 43-34 in the contest. Erickson made 30 saves for Canton, while Moore turned aside 40 shots for Brockport.
