Roos Defeat Morrisville 2-1 for Third Straight Win

CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY – Kyle Dora and Joey Vocino scored goals in the first and second periods and Josh Erickson turned in a 30 save performance as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team won its third straight contest with a 2-1 victory v. Morrisville State on Tuesday in the Roos House.

The Roos (5-9-2) got on the board first at 4:05 of the opening period. Kyle Matsumoto picked off a pass in the Canton defensive zone and left a drop-off pass for Dora in the neutral zone. The senior assistant captain skated across the blue line and sniped a shot top shelf bard-down over the blocker of Jared Young for the early lead.

Morrisville (2-11-2) evened the score at one 8:41 later when Jordan Carvalho fed the puck to CJ Stubbs at the bottom of the right circle. He hit Joseph Santino in the low slot and after Josh Erickson stopped his initial shot Santino put home the rebound for his ninth goal of the season. The Mustangs held a slim 12-10 shots advantage as the teams headed to the locker room tied at one.

Canton regained the lead at the 17:13 mark of the middle period when Tyler Bullard fed a pass to Ben Beasley at the point. His initial shot was saved by Young but Vocino was on the doorstep and put home the rebound at the near post for his fifth goal of the season. The Roos held a 19-11 shots advantage in the second stanza as they took a 2-1 into second intermission.

Neither team could find the back of the net in a back-and-forth third period. Morrisville pulled the goalie with 1:20 remaining and called a timeout 15 seconds later prior to an offensive zone faceoff but the Roos held on for the win.

Erickson turned aside 30 of the 31 shots he faced in his third consecutive win, while Young made 33 saves for Morrisville. Canton went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Mutangs were 1-for-3 with the skater advantage.
