Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the SUNY Canton Invitational on Saturday at the Roos House.
The Roos (2-1) swept Southern Vermont College 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-22) before falling three tight games to SUNY Poly 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 27-25) in its second match of the day.
Match 1 – Box Score
The Roos opened the second day of their home tournament getting off to a quick 16-5 lead as they cruised to a 25-8 opening set victory. SUNY Canton continued their strong start to sets leading 12-3 in the second frame leading to a 25-11victory. Southern Vermont played much tougher in the final set as the Roos were able to prevail 25-22 earning the first career victory for Head Coach
Danielle Swanston.
Freshman
Melissa McMaster (Pittsford, NY) led the offense with a match-best 17 kills hitting a remarkable .625 on 24 attack attempts.
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) chipped in with eight kills and eight digs, while
Shea Norton (Batavia, NY) added six putdowns.
Jenna Roat (Penfield, NY) was a force defensively with 32 digs, while
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) dished out 41 assists. Robinson,
Morgan Wicks (Hartford, NY) and
Jenifer Morgan-Aubin (Hartford, NY) all totaled double digit digs.
Match 2 – Box Score
The second match of the day was extremely close despite only going three sets as all three frames needed extra points to be decided. Norton paced the Roos with 11 kills hitting .400 on 25 attack attempts. Cornish posted seven kills, while McMaster and
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) floored six balls each. McMaster added five blocks, while Robinson dished out 26 assists.
